Position : HEAD TRADE FINANCE
Reports to: Manager Financial Accounting & Treasury

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for managing the Trade Finance section to ensure high level of productivity, effective and efficient operations while ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures and providing added value to the company.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional certifications in trade finance (e.g., CTFP, CITF, CDCS) are a plus.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in trade finance, with a solid track record of success.
- Manufacturing/ steel industry or similar industry experience is preferred.
Job-Specific Skills (Generic / Technical):
- Advance knowledge on Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP 600).
- Advance knowledge on International Standard Banking Practices (ISBP).
- Advance knowledge on Incoterms 2020 (International Commercial Terms).
- Profound knowledge of steel market dynamics, trade finance products, and international trade regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex financial structures and risks.
- Proficiency in trade finance software and ERP.
- Advanced leadership skills and ability to manage personnel in a multi-cultural work environment.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Strategic Planning: Lead and execute strategic plans for the trade finance section to achieve the organization’s financial goals and objectives.
Trade Finance Operations: Manage the daily operations of trade finance activities, including import and export financing, letters of credit, guarantees, standby letters of credit, advance payment and documentary collections.
Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and steel trading partners, understanding their trade finance needs and offering tailored solutions.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Plan and conduct comprehensive risk assessments for trade finance transactions, particularly focusing on steel market dynamics, and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
Compliance and Regulations: Direct and ensure strict adherence to industry-specific regulations and compliance standards within the steel sector, including steel trade compliance, import/export regulations, UCP600, international standard banking practice (ISBP), and uniform rules on demand guarantee (URDG).
Financial Analysis: Strategize the financial aspects of steel trade finance deals, assess counterparties’ creditworthiness, and make informed decisions regarding financing.
Documentation and Reporting: Manage trade finance documentation, including complex steel contracts, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Generate regular reports on trade finance activities and KPI’s.
Supply Chain Finance: Manage the collaboration with supply chain teams to optimize trade finance solutions that support the steel supply chain, reduce financing costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of trade finance professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support for their professional development.
Process Improvement: Lead in identifying opportunities to streamline trade finance processes within the company and contribute to the development and enhancement of specialized trade finance procedures
Budgeting and Financial Planning
Manage the preparation and recommend the sectional budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget while ensuring all sectional activities are conducted in line with the approved guidelines.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
Manage and ensure effective implementation of policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of assigned sectional activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements, fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.
Continuous Improvement
Lead the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
Reporting
Ensure that all sectional reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet Steel’s requirements, policies, and quality standards. Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls, maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.
Related Assignments
Perform other related duties or assignments as directed by the Manager Financial Accounting & Treasury.
