# DRI Mechanical Maintenance Section Head

Qualification : Engineer/Master of Mechanical Engineering  /  Professional Experience : 14 min years at least

Structure Presentation:

To manage and control DRI Maintenance Department Mechanical operational activities, in order to ensure the provision of cost effective, proactive maintenance and engineering services that meet the current and future needs of the production process and hence support the achievement of corporate objectives.

Report to : Maintenance  Manager & Mechanical Maintenance Assistant Manager  /  Framed By: DRI M.M Engineer & M.M Supervisor & M.M Group Leader.Inside Company :Operation, logistic, material handling, quality, HR, procurement and top management. / Outside company :Local Suppliers, contractors, sub-contractors, Foreign suppliers, Main manufacturing companies.

Job Tasks:

Main Tasks/ Reasons For Being/ Purposes Of The Position
  • Maintain the plant availability in the optimum values

  • Ensure and solve all problems that might delay operation targets
  • Develop the needed projects to optimize the operation targets.

Develop the need plans and arrangements to raise the employee’s skills.

Activities / Tasks:

  • Ensure the effectiveness DRI Plant, MIDREX MODULE, reliability and availability in order to achieve the required targets and objectives that have been established and declared earlier by top management.
  • Develop and implement Maintenance plans, policies and procedures in line with corporate Production strategy in order to ensure effective maintenance and engineering support of the production.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of policies and procedures through leadership of Mechanical Section employees – setting objectives, managing performance, and support in recruiting, developing and motivating employees – in order to ensure the highest levels of performance are achieved.
  • Identify, develop, propose and/or implement as appropriate policy and procedure improvements for the Mechanical Section under the direction of the Department Manager, in order to ensure the highest standards of maintenance and engineering services are achieved and maintained.
  • Actively contribute to the overall production planning process through the provision of technical and process of Mechanical maintenance and engineering expertise to ensure that the production plant is optimally utilized.
  • Utilize technical expertise to assess new technology and recommend its implementation as appropriate in order to support the achievement of continuous production operation at minimum maintenance cost.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to internal customers on Mechanical maintenance and engineering issues in order to support the achievement of corporate production objectives.
  • Manage relationships and ensure effective co-ordination with other Sections/Departments, acting as key interface in the production process, in order to support the achievement of corporate production objectives.
  • Lead and promote technical development in plant, equipment and process maintenance in order to ensure continuous development and improvement of the maintenance operation.
  • Identify, understand and control, as far as possible, factors affecting deviation from planned maintenance operations in order to support the achievement of effective optimal cost, proactive maintenance with minimal production downtime.
  • Personally resolve critical maintenance problems in order to minimize any production downtime.
  • Provide engineering guidance to Department engineers and other employees, applying specialist expertise to ensure problems are resolved quickly and effectively and, at the same time, ensuring transfer of skill and experience.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for outsourcing maintenance provision in order to support the achievement of least cost, high quality corporate maintenance provision.
  • Preparing of “Operational Expenditures Yearly Budget” as follows:
  • Identify all required mechanical maintenance activities that should be performed during the next calendar year enough-time before the beginning of each year; based on the equipment manuals, equipment maintenance history cards, inputs from subordinate employees and maintenance calendars as well; in order to ensure plant availability, reliability and maintenance cost targets.
  • Identify all materials required and all resources needed to perform the identified activities.
  • Communicate with planning section to get the required materials cost.
  • To attend budget hearing with maintenance department management and perform the needful correction(s) after the hearing.
  • Liaise with other DRO and outside agencies (e.g. equipment suppliers) in order to exchange information, resolve problems and ensure the continuous smooth running of maintenance section operations that meet corporate needs
  • implement a preventive maintenance strategy and Provide both technical and theoretical support to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of mechanical maintenance
  • Following and Ensure the accomplishment of all the planned and un-planned maintenance activities in order to minimize any production downtime.
  • Directs the development of, reviews and recommends implementation of feasible proposals based on mechanical engineering studies associated with planning, installing and maintaining of new or modified existing equipment for improving efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Responsible for the execution and the quality of mechanical maintenance work to be carried out on plant equipment, respecting budget, policies and deadlines
  • Directs, coordinates and supervises the activities of personnel assigned to Mechanical Department
  • Receives and reviews comprehensive and periodic reports on the performance of all mechanical equipment of the plant, identifies problem areas and directs division Engineers on means and methods of improving their respective Sections’ productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure on-going skills enhancement of his team’s employees, helping the development and implementation of training plans.
  • Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

  • Prepare the duty roster in order to ensure that manpower is effectively matched to operational requirements that will enable the provision of continuous and reliable maintenance support
  • Conduct on job training, demonstration and instruction for new and/or existing employees in order to support their professional development and ensure the highest standards of performance are achieved across the shift team
  • Attend breakdowns and supervise repair activity in order to ensure that plant and equipment downtime is minimized.
  • Manage stocks of consumables, tools, spare parts, monitoring stock levels and re-ordering and reporting to senior stuff as appropriate, in order to ensure there are always sufficient stocks available to ensure uninterrupted maintenance activity
  • Assuring the availability and readiness of the needed spare parts, equipment, lubricant and consumable for any maintenance activity
  • Check and continuously review operating parameters and safety standards and procedures, updating and modifying as appropriate under the direction of the Maintenance Engineer
  • Assign routine and non-routine tasks and duties to each shift group in order to ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in the most efficient and safe way
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement to eliminate waste and improve team performance.
  • Provides maintenance support and technical advice to all areas of operation and will be responsible for the supervision of Team Members assigned to the designated area.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment with the insurance of all needed resources including tools, spare parts, consumable… etc.

  • Ensure the accomplishment of all the planned and un-planned maintenance activities in order to minimize any production downtime.
